Scottish Premiership giants Rangers already missed out on Louis Moult and now League One leaders Wigan Athletic are eyeing Jamie Walker.
Jamie Walker could be on the move from Hearts at last in the January transfer window. But Wigan Athletic is looking a more likely destination than Rangers right now.
The Ibrox giants made a number of bids to sign Walker in the summer but Hearts stayed firm, refusing to sell last season’s 15-goal star for anything less than their £1 million asking price. According to The Mail, Rangers’ offer never went above £600,000.
But just a few months later, The Daily Star is reporting that Wigan are hoping to land the Scottish winger for as little as £300,000. And Rangers would be understandably frustrated if the League One leaders managed to strike such a bargain deal.
Obviously Hearts will not be able to demand top dollar for their talisman due to the fact his contract expires at the end of this season. But £300,000 would be quite the comedown from their seven-figure demands at the end of the summer transfer window.
The Sunday Post stated earlier this week that Rangers were still hoping to lure Walker to Ibrox in 2018 and wanted to tie the wideman down via a pre-contract agreement that would see him make the short trip from Tynecastle at the end of this season.
But after Louis Moult made his cut-price move from Motherwell to Preston North End with his contract running down, Rangers could be stung in an almost identical situation with Walker.
