Middlesbrough’s Marcus Tavernier is out of contract in the summer and several Premier League clubs are thought to be tracking his progress. But will Leeds United be in the mix ?

Marcus Tavernier is a man in demand. The 18-year-old may only have three league appearances to his name so far, but that hasn’t stopped clubs expressing an interest in the exciting Middlesbrough winger.

The Mail reports that Arsenal, Everton and Championship rivals Aston Villa are all hoping to land a player whose future at Boro is in doubt with his contract due to expire at the end of the current season.

But maybe Leeds United should take also a look. The left-winger, who impressed scouts with his recent displays for the England Under-19s, was born in Leeds after all. And the Championship club are well placed to watch Tavernier in action as Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough travel to Elland Road in a crunch clash on Sunday afternoon.

The speedy Tavernier may just be handed the chance to start again after netting the winner against north-east rivals Sunderland prior to the international break.

With Leeds’ defence struggling in recent weeks, the hitherto solid right-back Luke Ayling may be dreading coming up against a talented young winger whose confidence will be sky high right now.

And if Tavernier deepens Leeds’ woes at the weekend, The Whites should make a note of how far he has come in such a short period of time.

Young English talent have tended to thrive at Elland Road in recent seasons so, if Tavernier doesn’t commit his future to Middlesbrough, a return to West Yorkshire could help his career really take off.
