Everton should seriously consider talented Benfica youngster.

There is a reason why Everton fought tooth and nail to bring Marcel Brands to Goodison Park this summer.

The former PSV Eindhoven chief is renowned for his ability to spot exciting young talents and, after being appointed as the Toffees’ sporting director, claimed that he was keen to bring some of the most promising footballers around to Merseyside.

After Everton sent scouts to Benfica at the weekend, according to Record, Brands should make signing Joao Felix his priority.

The 18-year-old midfielder is one of the most highly-rated young midfielders anywhere on the continent right now and enhanced his reputation with a goal in front of Everton’s scouts in the 2-0 win against Aves.

That was Felix’s second goal of the campaign already.

The teenager is surely the kind of player Brands is looking for. And, after West Ham United seemed certain to sign him in the summer, with Sky Sports claiming they had beaten the likes of Dortmund and Manchester United to his signature, Everton should make the Londoners pay by going all out for Felix in 2019.

Tempting Benfica into a sale is easier said than done. After all, the Portuguese giants are hoping to insert a £108 million release clause in Felix’s contract, according to Record.
