Derby County signed Tom Huddlestone and Curtis Davies from Hull City last summer and should target their Championship rivals again.

Derby County did not wait around to raid Hull City last summer when The Tigers were relegated from the Premier League.

The Rams brought in experienced pair Tom Huddlestone and Curtis Davies for a combined fee of less than £3 million and they have played a major part in Derby’s attempts to reach the end of season play-offs.

And with Abel Hernandez seemingly set to leave Hull too this summer when his contract expires, Derby should consider returning to a familiar hunting ground to reunite Huddlestone and Davies with their former KCOM Stadium teammate.

According to Calciomercato, there are no shortage of clubs interested in Hernandez. Celtic have offered the Uruguayan striker a three-year deal while Fiorentina and Sampdoria want to bring the one-time Palermo frontman back to Serie A.

But Derby could do a lot worse than to sign Hernandez for absolutely nothing.

He has been one of the Championship’s most prolific marksmen in recent seasons, netting 20 in 39 games to fire Hull to the Premier League back in 2015/16. And, despite missing four months of the current campaign with a thigh injury, Hernandez has still found the time to score seven times in eight league starts.

And considering that Derby have looked a little over reliant on 19-goal top scorer Matej Vydra in the last few months, Hernandez would provide some much needed back-up with neither David Nugent nor Andi Weimann hitting the net frequently enough.
