Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion reportedly want to sign Callum McGregor from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in the January window.
Callum McGregor might go a little under the radar at Celtic but there is little doubt that he is one of the most important players in Brendan Rodgers’ squad right now.
Rodgers is a huge fan of the 25-year-old Scotland international, who has started six of Celtic’s seven league games in 2018/19. And McGregor has developed into a real big game player too, scoring crucial goals against the likes of Rangers, Zenit and Hibernian last season.
So it goes without saying that Celtic should have no interest in cashing in come the New Year.
According to The Sun (30 September, page 59), Brighton are interested in a £10 million January deal for McGregor. And, worryingly, it is claimed that the former Notts County loanee is keen to try his hand south of the border.
But there should be no way that Celtic can even think about accepting a potential £10 million bid. As fans and pundits alike have pointed out recently with the Hoops enduring their worst domestic start for 20 years, Rodgers has badly missed the drive and combativeness of Stuart Armstrong since his £7 million summer move to Southampton.
They have looked a little one-dimensional and predictable this season, particularly with the exit-linked Olivier Ntcham not at his best at the moment, so McGregor’s importance and role in the side has only grown of late.
