Abel Hernandez is leaving Hull City after another prolific Championship campaign – and should be targeted by Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been heavily criticised for spending huge sums of money in the Championship but, if local rivals Aston Villa had their way, the most expensive player in the history of England’s second tier would by playing in claret and blue rather than amber.
The move broke down, however, after Villa failed to agree personal terms with the Uruguayan international. And, almost two-years later, the Midland giants are still a Championship team.

But they have the ideal opportunity to finish what they started this summer. Hernandez confirmed all the way back in January in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb that he has no interest in extending his contract at Hull and he will therefore be a free agent this summer.
And, even if Aston Villa miss out on a return to the Premier League via the play-offs, the former Palermo speedster should be right at the top of Steve Bruce’s transfer wishlist.

There are few more prolific strikers at Championship level. The 27-year-old fired Hull to promotion in 2015/16 with 20 goals in 39 games and, despite spending four months on the sidelines with injury, has seven goals in seven starts this season.
He could be the lethal centre-forward Aston Villa are lacking.
