Gaeteno Berardi has barely featured in the Championship this season for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.

Leeds United fans up and down the land could spend hours debating whether or not Gaetano Berardi deserves a new contract at Elland Road.
On one hand, Berardi is a real Swiss army knife of a player, a loyal servant who will give his all in every position you ask him to play. On the other, well lets just say eight red cards in five years speak for themselves.
Berardi was hugely unfortunate to be sent off against Millwall before the international break but that brainless straight red against Derby in the play-off semi-final highlighted exactly why some see the 31-year-old as little more than a ‘liability’.
Unfortunately for the defender’s detractors, and there are many, he still has plenty of fans inside Elland Road.

According to the Mirror, Berardi is likely to be offered a new deal before his current contract expires in July and Leeds’ hierarchy want him to stay due to his popularity and experience in the dressing room.
The chances are that, regardless of whether Marcelo Bielsa’s side are promoted, the former Sampdoria and Brescia ace will be a 30-something back-up this time next year, should he decide to stay in West Yorkshire.
But, for some, the prospect of another year in white for Berardi raises a few questions.
