Newcastle United sent winger Jacob Murphy to Sheffield Wednesday and he has already scored a Championship goal for the Owls.

Newcastle United loanee Jacob Murphy could hardly have made a bigger impact on his Sheffield Wednesday debut. And, in quotes reported by the Mirror (12 August, goals pull-out, page 15), caretaker manager Lee Bullen has admitted that he is ‘delighted’ with the winger’s immediate impact.
There were just two minutes on the clock when Murphy scored his first goal in the blue and white stripes of Sheffield Wednesday.
The 24-year-old made an intelligent dart round the back of the Barnsley defence and, once the ball dropped invitingly into his path, he made no mistake. Murphy, who scored just one goal in two years at Newcastle, opened his account for The Owls with a perfectly placed shot into the far corner.
“I’m delighted Jacob was allowed to come (to Hillsborough),” said Bullen, who has picked up two wins from two since the departure of Steve Bruce.
“I like wingers. Now isn’t that old fashioned?”

Murphy’s £12 million move to his boyhood club Newcastle might have been a huge disappointment but it is easy to forget why the Magpies paid so much money for the England U21 international in the first place.
The explosive winger was a revelation during his final season at Norwich City, scoring nine often spectacular goals while providing another six assists.
If he can produce similar numbers with Sheffield Wednesday, there is no reason why this so-called ‘crisis club’ cannot confound the pre-season expectations and push for the top six.
