Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers let Martyn Waghorn leave Ibrox last summer to move to Championship outfit Ipswich Town for less than £1m.

Despite scoring a very impressive 44 goals in just two seasons at Rangers, the Scottish Premiership giants sold Martyn Waghorn on the cheap last summer. And considering how much he could be worth just 12 months on, that is looking more and more like a terrible piece of business.
Rangers had supposedly sold Waghorn to Ipswich Town for £1 million. But, as reported by the East Anglian Daily Times, the former Sunderland striker cost even less than that – around £250,000. And since then, it seems that Waghorn’s value has skyrocketed.
The 28-year-old enjoyed his most prolific season ever in English football in 2017/18, scoring 16 times in the Championship for Ipswich. He even set up another 11 in a remarkable individual campaign.
In fact, Waghorn was so impressive that a number of second tier clubs are chasing his signature. And The Mail (live blog, 9.54am) is claiming that Sheffield United have made a club-record bid of £5 million to bring him to Brammal Lane.

This comes after McCarthy’s replacement at Portman Road, Paul Hurst, said it would take a ‘helluva lot of money’ to convince Ipswich to sell.
In truth, Rangers failed to adequately replace the hard-working Waghorn last summer with the likes of Eduardo Herrera, Dalcio and Aaron Nemane flopping badly. And with Waghorn now worth at least £5 million, god knows why they let him go for next to nothing
