Newcastle United will loan out Freddie Woodman again this summer and Sheffield United reportedly want a new first-choice goalkeeper.
If you are a young, Newcastle United-owned goalkeeper aiming to jump-start your career, a loan spell in Scotland would not be a bad place to start, as reported by The Chronicle.
After all, Tim Krul’s short-term spell at Falkirk paved the way for him to seize the number one spot at St James’ Park while Fraser Forster’s excellent spell at Celtic eventually led to an England cap.
And it appears that Freddie Woodman could be the latest to return from north of the border with his reputation and skill-set enhanced.
The 20-year-old has thrived since joining Kilmarnock on loan in January, helping them to the comfort of mid-table with a series of inspired virtuoso performances between the sticks at Rugby Park.
However, with Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow still on the club’s books, The Chronicle reports that Newcastle may send Woodman out again this summer to further build up his experience.
And it just so happens that there is no shortage of clubs in need of a talented shot-stopper; Sheffield United for one.
The Walsall Advertiser reported recently that the Blades were targeting Saddlers’ shot-stopper Neil Etheridge with manager Chris Wilder on the lookout for a new first-choice ‘keeper.
However, United appear no closer to nabbing the 53-time Philippine international with Cardiff City on the scene. Therefore, you wonder whether they would jump at the chance to give Woodman his first taste of regular football towards the top end of the English domestic game.
And, if Newcastle view Woodman as a long-term number one, a spell in the harsh Championship habitat could be the making of this talented young goalkeeper.
