Frank Lampard’s Derby County have started the season well, sitting in the playoffs just two points off top spot.

His Derby County side are sixth in the Championship after nine games and just two points behind early pacesetters Leeds United. And a free-flowing 3-1 victory against fellow high-flyers Brentford on Saturday reminded everyone just how ominous The Rams can be when they click into top gear.
And, while acknowledging the impressive start Leeds have made under Marcelo Bielsa, Derby’s goalkeeping coach Shay Given admits that his side are hoping to go all the way and bring an end to their Premier League exile.
“That’s the plan,” the former Newcastle and Manchester City stopper told Alan Brazil’s Sport Breakfast (talkSPORT, 25 September, 9am) when asked whether Derby can be promoted.
“It’s a tough old season, Leeds have got off to a flying start but we’re just behind them. Were ticking on nicely and it’s a long season.
“Hopefully we can keep the squad injury free and we hope we can be challenging at the end of the season.”
After a terrific start, Leeds have won just two of their last five Championship games and lost for the first time in the league on Saturday. Two goals from Che Adams stunned Elland Road and earned Birmingham City manager Garry Monk a brilliant win on his return to Elland Road.
As a result, the likes of Derby, Middlesbrough, West Brom and co remain in touching distance at the top of the table.
