Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico is on loan at Premier League strugglers Fulham having previously shone in La Liga for Sevilla.
Sergio Rico has admitted he would be interested in signing for Fulham on a permanent basis at the end of the season, in quotes reported by Sky Sports.
The Spanish international goalkeeper was one of a number of big-name summer signings for the Cottagers, joining on a season-long loan from Sevilla. And he has since established himself as the club’s number one, batting away competition from Fabri and Marcus Bettinelli to make 17 appearances so far.
Rico has only kept three clean sheets however and he could be forgiven for feeling frustrated, as his good work is often undermined by an error-prone defence that has conceded more goals than any other side in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, it seems the 25-year-old is still enjoying his time in West London and would be open to stay, particularly if Fulham pull off a great escape and beat the drop.
“I have to come back to Seville but I would like to come here [Fulham] next season because I am very happy here,” he told Sky Sports.
“I like the Premier League and I enjoy it a lot here in London, I am so happy. I don’t know the future now but I would like to come here again.”
Rico might be better off sealing a permanent move away from Sevilla, with whom he won successive Europa League titles during the trophy-laden reign of Unai Emery.
Sevilla’s current number one is the Czech international Tomas Vaclik, who has been hugely impressive since he arrived from Basel. Rico would surely end up warming the bench if he returned to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
