Nottingham Forest were reportedly keen to sign Lee Tomlin again after he starred in the Championship on loan from Cardiff City.
Everything Lee Tomlin touched seemed to turn to gold during his outstanding loan spell at Nottingham Forest in the second half of last season.
The enigmatic play-maker moved to the City Ground after falling out of favour at Cardiff City and shone under Aitor Karanka, scoring or assisting seven goals in just 12 Championship games.
But the chance to join Forest permanently came and went. The Nottingham Post reported that the former European champions were keen to keep Tomlin around but he wanted to test himself in the Premier League with promoted Cardiff.
It is fair to say, however, that decision has backfired spectacularly.
In a major blow to Tomlin’s hopes, he was omitted from Cardiff’s 25-man Premier League squad and even stripped of his squad number, meaning he is unable to fulfil his top flight dream until January at least.
The creative midfielder, who played under Karanka during his stellar spell at Middlesbrough, is now being limited to reserve team football. And Tomlin suffered a further setback on Friday.
He started Cardiff’s U23 clash with Coventry City but was sent off just 26 minutes in.
To think, Tomlin could have been the main man at a Nottingham Forest side striving for promotion instead.
