James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard were all at the top of their game as Celtic thrashed Aberdeen 4-0 on Sunday and Dons defender Scott McKenna has bemoaned his side’s failure to keep the Hoops trio in check, in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun.

Celtic produced one of their finest performances in either of Neil Lennon’s two spells in charge at the weekend, thrashing Derek McInnes’s Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

With ‘Lennonball’ in full effect, a free-flowing and swashbuckling Celtic cruised into a four goal lead before the break with Edouard, Forrest, Mohamed Elyounoussi and even Jeremie Frimpong finding the target.

McKenna, the Scotland international centre-back, who Celtic bid £5 million for previously (Sun), endured a day to forget and he believes that Aberdeen’s failure to control Celtic’s star men set them up for a fall.

“We were miles off it and nowhere near good enough. We let Celtic do what they wanted. Every goal was easy. We were far too passive and not strong enough in the tackle,” McKenna said.

“None of us were aggressive enough or sharp enough and Celtic ran over the top of us. James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard all enjoyed the game far too much.

“We have nobody to blame but ourselves.”

Edouard was almost irrepressible in attack, scoring his 11th of the season already, while Forrest constantly stretched the Aberdeen defence with his trademark pace. McGregor, as he so often does, pulled the strings in the middle and gave the freedom his attacking team-mates require to work their magic.

It seems a long time now since Aberdeen were running Celtic close at the top of the table.
