Victor Orta is finally getting some positive publicity as Championship giants Leeds United land Marcelo Bielsa.

Andrea Radrizzani, Owner of Leeds United (L) looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Bristol City and Leeds United at Ashton Gate on October 21, 2017 in Bristol, England.

This time last month, Victor Orta was Leeds United’s much-maligned director of football; the man so many fans blame for a disappointing season which promised much but delivered very little.

Now, however, Orta is the unexpected hero of Elland Road, the new-found apple of the fans’ eye who helped Leeds make easily the most high profile managerial appointment in their recent history in the form of Marcelo Bielsa

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have appointed the cult favourite Argentine tactician on a £2 million-a-year deal, making him the most highly paid coach in the history of this grand old club.

And Orta deserves credit for this most unexpected of announcements.

The Post adds that Orta identified Bielsa as a potential option right at the start after Paul Heckingbottom was sacked at the end of last season.

It is understood that the Spaniard, along with managing director Angus Kinnear, did much of the early legwork and travelled to Argentina last month to embark on four days of intense negotiations.

You can forget the Jay-Roy Grots, the Mateusz Klichs and the Felix Wiedwalds, today is Orta’s day at Elland Road.

And for all the criticism he has received over the last eight or nine months, you would need to have a trash can for a heart (to borrow Gianluigi Buffon’s famous phrase) to deny Orta his moment.
