Sam Byram is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Premier League strugglers West Ham United.
You have to feel for Sam Byram. After two years struggling to make an impression at West Ham United, a loan move to Nottingham Forest offered the highly-rated right-back the chance to get his career back on track.
But just when things were starting to go well for him at the City Ground, Byram suffered a serious knee injury in the 3-1 EFL Cup win against Newcastle United and was forced to limp out of the action.
The former Leeds United favourite has since had surgery, but there is no official timescale yet on how long he will be out for. Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Aitor Karanka admitted it could be at least three months before Byram returns and he could be on the side-lines for much longer than that, too.
So with his future seemingly lying away from West Ham, this latest injury blow may have put a doubt on a potential permanent move to Nottingham Forest.
Fortunately, Forest signed Saidy Janko on loan from Porto on transfer deadline day and have Tendayi Darikwa waiting in the wings, so they can at least compensate for Byram’s absence.
The 24-year-old, however, will be hoping he is back as soon as possible in order to show why Forest should keep him around for the long-term.
