Tottenham Hotspur are bottom of their European group with Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven all to come for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign could hardly have gone much worse so far.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were a goal up and comfortable heading into the final five minutes away at Inter Milan, only for Mauro Icardi and Mattias Vecino to score twice in the dying seconds to send the San Siro into raptures.
And Spurs were outdone by the magic of Lionel Messi two weeks later, going down 4-2 at home to a Barcelona side inspired by the Argentine genius. As a result, Tottenham are already six points adrift in Group B, level at the bottom with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.
But former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason is not ruling out the North Londoners playing Champions League football in the spring.
“It’s very difficult,” Mason, who was a regular for Spurs between 2014 and 2016, told the Final Word on talkSPORT (8 October, 5.30pm).
“They’ve got a double-header against PSV and if they can pick up six points and I’m fully confident they’ll beat Inter Milan at home. And if will probably come down to that last game against Barcelona needing a draw.
“The situation they are in is difficult. It’s a tough group. Man City and Liverpool have lost in the Champions League this season so you can’t expect to top your group every time.”
Tottenham still have to welcome Inter Milan to Wembley and travel to Barcelona while PSV, who boast hugely exciting talents like Hirving Lozano and Steven Bergwijn, certainly have the firepower to cause Pochettino a headache.
