League One Sunderland reportedly want to sign Lewis Morgan from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, but what about Ryan Christie?
Sunderland have now stepped up their attempts to bring Lewis Morgan to the Stadium of Light this summer.
New Black Cats boss Jack Ross is a big fan of the 21-year-old winger, who inspired his St Mirren side to the Scottish Championship title last season, scored 18 goals and produced 13 assists in all competitions, and won the League’s Player of the Year award despite sealing a £300,000 move to Celtic halfway through the campaign.
And the Scottish Sun is now reporting that Sunderland have made an official approach for Morgan. It is unsure, however, whether Celtic will decide to let him go with Brendan Rodgers keen to give the former Rangers youngster the chance to prove himself in pre-season.
If Sunderland are left disappointed, they should immediately turn their attention to another Celtic starlet who thrived elsewhere last season.
Ryan Christie scored eight goals and set up 15 more on loan at Aberdeen, establishing himself as one of the most exciting creative talents north of the border. But, while Celtic have handed him a new contract, it is uncertain how big a role he will play in Rodgers’ first-team plans.
So there is no harm in Sunderland making a move for a second Celtic youngster this summer. Christie went from strength to strength during 18 months at Aberdeen, and a spell at Sunderland would give him a taste of a lead role at a massive club, which can only prepare him for a future at Celtic.
And that is not to mention the fact he would give Sunderland the creativity and unpredictability they have lacked in recent years.
