Ryan Babel has been a rare success story in a dreadful season for Scott Parker’s relegated Premier League outfit Fulham.
Ryan Babel has admitted that he wants to leave relegated Fulham this summer in order to maximise his chances of playing at the 2020 European Championships for Holland, while speaking to the Daily Mail.
The veteran forward made a shock return to the Premier League eight years after leaving Liverpool in January, joining Fulham on a short term deal until the end of the season from Turkish giants Besiktas.
Babel has been one bright spark in a dismal season for The Cottagers, however, scoring and assisting eight goals in ten top flight games for the club. As a result, it seems that he will be one of the first out of the door with Fulham expected to lose a number of their key players, including Stephan Sessegnon, Aleksander Mitrovic and Tom Cairney.
The Mail claims that interim coach Scott Parker is desperate to keep the 32-year-old at Craven Cottage but it seems that Babel himself has other ideas.
“My agent has had some phone calls. For me, I am at the stage where I have to make the right decision. I am able, if I am lucky enough, to play in the Euros next year, if we qualify. So there are a lot of factors for me to make the right decision,” said the former Hoffenheim and Deportivo La Coruna ace.
“I still think I have two or three years ahead of me and of course if I have the opportunity to stay in the Premier League, that would be great.”
Considering how impressive Babel has been since returning to England three months ago, it would be no surprise if he was offered a chance to stay in the top flight beyond this summer.
