Since Wolverhampton Wanderers were promoted to the Premier League, midfielder Romain Saiss has played just ten minutes of football
It is difficult not to feel a little sorry for Romain Saiss.
The Moroccan international was a huge part of the Wolverhampton Wanderers side who stormed to the Championship title last season, starting 37 games and providing the perfect foil for Ruben Neves in the centre of midfield.
But there is no room for sentiment in football. And, despite his superb form from last season, Saiss has been replaced at Molineux by the 113-time Portugal international Joao Moutinho, who has been superb since his £5 million move from Monaco.
As a result, Saiss has played just 10 minutes of Wolves’ first six Premier League games. Though that does not mean that the former Angers midfielder has any regrets about moving to Molineux in 2016.
“Game after game, week after week, (playing in the Championship) was very good for me because I learned English quickly I think, and adapted myself to English football,” Saiss told the Express and Star.
“I am really lucky and have no regret to sign for Wolves.”
Nuno Espirito Santo has fielded the same starting XI for each of Wolves’ six Premier League games since their promotion. But with 32 matches remaining, Saiss will surely get his chance eventually.
Alongside Leander Dendoncker, the 28-year-old is probably the first reserve should Neves or Moutinho be unavailable.
