Southampton have been linked with Celtic’s Scottish Premiership winning manager Brendan Rodgers.

So Mark Hughes has gone… and it’s fair to say we all saw that one coming.

And while we’re on the subject of the inevitable, Celtic fans are expecting to see Brendan Rodgers’ name churned around the rumour mill from now until Hughes is replaced at St Mary’s.

The Mirror, after all, reported that Rodgers was one of a number of names on Southampton’s radar should they look to discard the experienced Welshman, alongside the likes of Leonardo Jardim and Peter Bosz.

But this does not mean that Celtic fans are waiting with baited breath, desperately refreshing the news feeds and fearing the sight of Rodgers posing with a red and white scarf around his neck.

After all, why would Rodgers leave Celtic, a club he led to a seventh straight domestic trophy in Sunday’s 1-0 Scottish League Cup final win against Aberdeen, to move to a club who have won just one out of 14 Premier League games this season.

Contrary to popular opinion, Rodgers has not taken The Hoops as far as he can. He has plenty of work to do in European competition while the prospect of putting Rangers in their place will undoubtedly whet the Northern Irishman’s appetite after all.
