The 29-year-old has been in exceptional form at the KCom, but has been linked with a move away to Celtic

If you value long-term stability, there’s not many worse clubs you could be at than Hull City. With the owners as yet unable to sell up, the manager under severe pressure, and the team struggling at the bottom end of the Premier League, it’s not even certain what division The Tigers will be in next season.

Therefore, the prospect of Scotland international Robert Snodgrass leaving the KCom Stadium in January hardly bares thinking about for Tigers supporters. After all, without his six goals and two assists this season, Hull might as well have had their bags packed for a return to the second tier already.

The former Leeds United winger’s deal was due to expire in the summer though the club’s owners triggered a one-year extension before Christmas, somewhat imposing an improved contract upon him.

However, after reports emerged that Snodgrass was determined to leave the Premier League’s relegation fodder, his latest quotes will hardly put an end to speculation linking him with an impending exit.

“I will have to ask the owner about what goes on there. What has probably happened is he has activated everyone’s year they had when first signed,” Snodgrass told the Hull Daily Mail.

“There has been no new proper negotiations. It has not been the best for myself. I rejected the offer they put to me because it wasn’t long enough and enough security for me and my family.

“I had to assess it. I will be open and honest. What he has probably done is want to get everyone tied down for 18 months. I don’t know enough about it. He has just activated that from the last contract I signed.”

While there is now no chance that Snodgrass will be walking away on a free in the summer, his comments only add to the feeling that his term future lies well away from the KCom.

The Daily Record reported last month that Snodgrass had offered to take a substantial pay cut to join boyhood club Celtic in January, only for manager Brendan Rodgers to express little interest in a potential deal.

However, if the 29-year-old produces more moments of magic akin to his trademark free-kick against Everton, the Northern Irishman will surely find it increasingly difficult to ignore Scotland’s most in-form footballer.
