Shane Long failed to score once again as Southampton limped to a 2-2 Premier League draw with Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night.

It is never easy to judge Shane Long. On one hand, he is integral to the way Southampton play and his commendable work rate means he will always remain in credit with some sections of the Saints support.
On the other, the Irishman’s dreadful run in front of goal really cannot be ignored. Long has scored just two goals in his last 60 games for club and country, an average of one in 30 which is not exactly befitting of a Premier League centre forward.
He missed a clear cut chance as Southampton threw away a two-goal lead to draw at home with south coast rivals Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night; and it seems that a number of the St Mary’s support are starting to lose faith in their £12 million man.

Southampton struggled for goals throughout last season but Danny Ings, who arrived on loan from Liverpool over the summer, has finally given Mark Hughes a poacher he can rely on, netting from the spot against Brighton.
But how much longer can Long retain his place in the XI with Charlie Austin and Manolo Gabbiadini waiting in the wings?
Long’s presence in the line-up is starting to divide the Southampton fan base.
