In his third game in charge, Paul Lambert finally picked up a win in charge of Wolves.

Wolves defender Richard Stearman has told Express and Star that their much-needed 2-1 win at QPR proves the character within the squad.

David Edwards and Helder Costa scored the goals as Paul Lambert secured his first win in charge of the Midlands outfit although the hosts, who had James Perch sent off in the first half, caused a scare when Joel Lynch netted in the closing stages.

The result meant Wolves won for the first time since late September, simultaneously pulling them clear of the relegation zone after fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic and Cardiff City failed to pick up three points against Derby County and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively.

And Stearman says the win proved the character in the Wolves squad, something that has inevitably been questioned after a dismal run that left them sliding down the table at an alarming rate.

“We were real men out there, we showed some real leadership and we stood up to the challenge where maybe we might have conceded in weeks gone by,” Stearman told the Express and Star.

“We really stood up to the test. We made it quite difficult for ourselves at the end but that’s typical of how we are as a club.

“We definitely should have been a few more goals ahead but credit to their keeper, he’s pulled off some great saves and kept them in the game.

“They were always going to get a chance from a set piece and they were launching it in the box.

“We’re delighted with the three points and hopefully that moves us up the table a bit further.”

Wolves’ ambitious owners, Fosun International, were targeting promotion at the start of the season after spending large sums on a number of new signings, but mere survival is the only possibility on the radar at the current time.

However, Lambert will be desperately hoping the win can inspire a change in mentality amongst the group.
