Leeds United want to sign Swansea City’s Kyle Bartley and Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom – but so do Championship rivals Reading.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

Leeds United conceded 17 more goals last season than they did in the 2016/17 campaign under Garry Monk.

So no wonder the Elland Road giants are hoping to reinforce a defence that has looked disturbingly shaky in the underwhelming four month reign of Paul Heckingbottom.

The Yorkshire Evening Post state that director of football Victor Orta is planning a more homegrown approach to recruitment this summer with a deal to re-sign the former Swansea City loanee Kyle Bartley, who formed a brilliant partnership with Pontus Jansson in 2016/17, at the top of their wishlist.

The report also adds that Andy Yiadom, the out-of-contract Barnsley defender who thrived under Heckingbottom at Oakwell, has been lined up for a summer move to Leeds.

But is there a chance that Championship rivals Reading could ruin Leeds’ best laid plans?

The Reading Chronicle claimed last week that The Royals are also keen on Bartley and they may have a slight advantage. Current Reading manager Paul Clement was the Swansea boss at the start of last season and gave Bartley a rare run in the first team before the former Rangers loanee was struck down with injury.

And HITC sources are now telling us that Clement is trying to scupper Leeds’ move for Yiadom too, having attempted to sign the Ghana right-back during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

So Paul Clement could stand between Leeds and two deals which would transform their shaky defence.
