In an era where centre-backs cost a bomb, Wolverhampton Wanderers will reportedly snap up Porto’s Willy Boly for just £10million.
There are some obscene figures flying around for centre-backs at the moment.
In the last 12 months, Virgil Van Dijk has moved for £75 million, Aymeric Laporte for £57 million and Michael Keane for £30 million. And with the price-tags continuing to balloon out of control, it seems the trend is not stopping yet.
So Wolverhampton Wanderers appear to be closing in on a deal that should make the rest of English football green with envy. According to the Express, Willy Boly is set to sign for Wolves in a £10 million deal after spending the Championship title-winning season on loan from FC Porto.
And, in today’s market, where the price of centre-backs has skyrocketed due to a dearth of top class talent on the market, it cannot be underestimated just what a bargain this is.
Boly may have never played Premier League football, but the way he dominated the Championship suggests he will have absolutely no trouble making the step up next season. The Frenchman started 36 league games as Wolves cruised to promotion last season and kept a remarkable 20 clean sheets in that time.
So if Boly does indeed make a similar impact in the top flight, expect Wolves’ Premiere League rivals to be jealous. It is not often defenders of Boly’s class are available for just £10 million any more.
