Premier League outfit West Ham United were reportedly keen on signing Roma’s Serie A forward Stephan El Shaarawy.

Stephan El Shaarawy might not become the world class attacker some expected him to be when he exploded onto the scene with AC Milan – but the Italian international reminded everyone of his natural-born ability on Sunday.
Now with Roma, El Shaarawy took his tally to five for the season in the 4-1 thrashing of Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico and one of his goals will remain long in the memory.
Forced wide by the Samp goalkeeper, El Shaarawy kept going, cut inside and curled a stunning finish into the top corner. It was a moment of supreme class from the 26-year-old which earned plenty of praise from the fans, neutrals and his manager Eusebio Di Francesco in quotes reported by the club’s official website.

It remains to be seen, however, whether we will see El Shaarawy in the Premier League in 2019. Tuttomercatoweb reported recently that West Ham United were trying to initiate talks with the versatile forward – though Roma are understood to be close to tying him down to a new long-term contract.
But if West Ham do manage to convince El Shaarawy to move to the London Stadium, they will be signing a player whose undoubted ability is often undermined by a lack of consistency – something he himself has admitted.
“I need to be a bit more consistent, it’s true, even during the same game. I need to have conviction and courage – and keep putting in performances like this, with or without the goals coming as well,” El Shaarawy told Roma’s website.
