Sam Byram’s loan spell at Nottingham Forest has been ruined by injury while West Ham United allegedly want to sign Antonio Valencia.
The door might just have opened for Nottingham Forest to sign Sam Byram on a permanent basis in the summer. Whether they would like to or not remains to be seen.
The 25-year-old right-back moved to the City Ground on loan from West Ham United in the summer transfer window and he enjoyed a hugely encouraging start to life at Forest, impressing in all three of his appearances for the club.
At the time, Forest fans surely would have snapped your hand off if you offered them Byram on a permanent deal.
But, thanks to an ankle injury suffered in September, the former Leeds United defender has missed the last five months of action and is still recovering from surgery. Whether he will play for Forest again this season is uncertain.
And reports from the Mail that parent club West Ham are stepping up their interest in Manchester United veteran Antonio Valencia, whose contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, leaves Byram in limbo.
It seems that he has no future at West Ham right now with Manuel Pellegrini and co seemingly choosing a 33-year-old Valencia instead of giving him a chance. Ryan Fredericks is also plying his trade at the London Stadium.
So Byram will be praying that he can make his return from injury sooner rather than later. Because otherwise he could enter the summer transfer window with his future up in the air.
