Premier League duo West Ham United and Liverpool have been linked with Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez after another impressive La Liga season.

Maxi Gomez faces the media during his presentation as a new player for Celta de Vigo at Estadio Balaidos on June 28, 2017 in Vigo, Spain.

Maxi Gomez could be available for half his £45 million release clause this summer amid links with West Ham United and Liverpool, according to Diario Sport.

The Uruguayan international has been a Celta Vigo player since the summer of 2017 and has taken to life in La Liga like a duck to water.

After netting 18 goals in a staggering debut season, the old-school centre-forward has hit the target nine times in 2018/19.

As a result, Gomez has allegedly caught the eye of clubs in England. Bleacher Report believe that West Ham will make a new approach to sign the so-called ‘new Luis Suarez’ in the summer if they can raise funds via the sales of a number of fringe players.

Mundo Deportivo, however, believe that Gomez would jump at the chance to join Liverpool after being recommended by his Uruguay international teammate Suarez.

So latest reports from Sport should raise eyebrows in London and Merseyside. It is claimed that Gomez will be available for a cut-price £23 million fee if Celta, Europa League semi-finalists as recently as 2017, are relegated from the top flight.

They slipped into the relegation zone at the weekend and are just three points off the bottom.

So West Ham might not even have to sell a bench-warmer or two in order to fund a deal.
