Fiorentina’s Serie A speedster Federico Chiesa has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Could the new Gareth Bale be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur this summer?

Like so many of Europe’s bona fide super-clubs, Spurs have been mentioned as potential suitors for one of the most exciting forward talents on the continent – Fiorentina’s coveted speedster Federico Chiesa.

According to the Sun, Tottenham have put Chiesa at the very top of their summer wish list, with manager Mauricio Pochettino demanding investment in a new attacking star.

Whether they can afford the 21-year-old, who is valued at a staggering £70 million by Fiorentina, is another matter entirely and a problem that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may be unwilling to provide an answer for.

But if Chiesa does sign for Spurs, and more than likely becomes their record signing n the process, they will have a player who has been likened to one of their greatest all-time players.

Federico Chiesa of ACF Fiorentina reacts during the Serie A match between FC Crotone and Benevento Calcio at Stadio Artemio Franchi on September 24, 2017 in Florence, Italy.

“Chiesa has dribbling skills and quality, but also stamina, pace and power. He’s like a young Gareth Bale who drives you crazy and never gives in,” Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognoni said recently, in quotes reported by Telegrafi.

The comparisons certainly make sense. Like Tottenham’s former talisman, Chiesa is blessed with rapid pace and, while he can leave fans holding their head in their hands, he is equally capable of leaving opposition full-backs with a severe case of twisted blood.
