Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to bring Roma’s Serie A starlet Cengiz Under to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

You don’t need us to tell you that Christian Eriksen is the man who makes Tottenham Hotspur tick.

In the last few seasons, the Danish international has blossomed into one of the most influential play-makers anywhere in Europe, and he enjoyed arguably the most effective season of his career in 2017/18, scoring 14 goals and creating 13 more in all competitions.

It is telling that Spurs simply have not looked the same free-flowing side with Eriksen out of the team.

The Danish international is suffering from a stomach injury and Tottenham have lacked the vision and cutting edge he provides, losing at home to Barcelona and stuttering to a 1-0 win against Cardiff City.

Maybe this is why Spurs have apparently renewed their interest in 2017’s one that got away Cengiz Under. According to CalcioNews24, Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring the Turkish international to North London from AS Roma.

Under is in negotiations over a new contract, which could see a £50 million release clause inserted into his contract. But Tottenham need to spend if they are to avoid stagnating, and the 21-year-old could be exactly the kind of signing that reduces their over-reliance on Eriksen.

Like the former Ajax star, Under is an intelligent and creative midfielder capable of both scoring and creating goals. He has four assists in eight games this season and has plenty of room to improve. Under may be the perfect deputy to Tottenham’s Scandinavian star.
