Premier League giants Spurs are reportedly planning an audacious double swoop to sign Lazio duo Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile.
There are certainly a few similarities between Paul Pogba and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Like Pogba during his trophy laden spell with Juventus, Lazio’s Serbian midfielder has taken Serie A by storm with an inimitable blend of technique and natural, in-built power.
Milinkovic-Savic is a Yaya Toure and a Zinedine Zidane rolled into one, a player capable of controlling the tempo, dominating opponents on the ground or in the air, and gliding through the centre of the park like a knife through butter, all from his favoured position on the left of a central trio.
So if Tottenham Hotspur genuinely want to bring the 23-year-old to North London in the summer, and The Mirror says they do, they should be prepared to shatter the £42 million record fee they spent on Davinson Sanchez last summer.
Because Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, though from an admittedly biased perspective, believes the 12-goal powerhouse is one step ahead of Manchester United’s £89 million man Pogba.
“When Sergej arrived in Italy there were comparisons with Paul Pogba. I think that now Milinkovic-Savic has some different qualities that are better than Pogba,” the former Chelsea striker and now agent Mateja Kezman told Mozzart Sport.
“In these past six months he has made enormous progress and has the possibility to become the best in the world in my opinion.
“He reminds me of Zinedine Zidane sometimes and there’s certain things he does that you cannot see on the television. For me he can become better that Arjen Robben and Frank Lampard and will one day contest the Ballon d’Or.”
The Mirror says that Tottenham are prepared to offer £100 million to land Milinkovic-Savic and his Lazio team-mate, the 41-goal striker Ciro Immobile.
But if Pogba cost a then-world record fee of £89 million, according to Sky Sports, Tottenham might have to put a few extra pounds onto their offer.
