Leeds United were reportedly in talks with Aston Villa about bringing winger Albert Adomah to Elland Road from Villa Park.
It is easy to forget that Marcelo Bielse has only made a smattering of changes to his Leeds United squad. Barring left-back Barry Douglas, this is pretty much the same side that limped to a bottom half finish last season under Paul Heckingbottom.
Now, with largely the same group of players, Bielsa’s Leeds are top of the Championship, winning four of their five games so far and drawing the other.
The Whites’ attack, in particular, has been transformed. Samu Saiz and Pablo Hernandez have started to add consistency to their game-changing qualities while the frustrating Gianni Alioski looks a completely different player in his new role on the left wing.
So Albert Adomah, had he joined the Leeds revolution this summer, would have been hard pressed to even get a look in.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Leeds were in talks with Aston Villa about signing their 30-year-old winger, whose 14 Championship goals last season was a career best.
But Adomah has lost his form dramatically of late. The Ghana international is now 20 games without a goal for Villa and was criticised by supporters once again for a poor display in the 1-0 EFL Cup loss at Burton Albion which left Steve Bruce fuming.
On current form, there is no way Adomah gets in Leeds’ starting XI in his favoured left wing position – particularly with Alioski starting to fire on a more regular basis.
Bielsa’s work goes to show that you don’t need to spend to improve your side.
