Premier League duo Newcastle United and Leicester City have been linked with Markus Henriksen, the captain of Championship outfit Hull City.
Markus Henriksen is planning to leave Hull City when his contract expires in the summer, according to VG, amid alleged interest from both Newcastle United and Leicester City.
Henriksen has been one of Hull’s top performers this season, captaining the side as they have been transformed from relegation candidates to genuine play-off contenders.
This has marked a dramatic turnaround for the Norwegian international on Humberside, given that he was heavily criticised by some sections of the Tigers’ support after arriving from AZ Alkmaar in 2016.
According to VG, Henriksen turned down offers to leave the KCOM Stadium last month but it is unlikely that he will extend a contract that runs out in July. It seems that he is certain to leave when he becomes a free agent.
And this is likely to catch the eye of both Newcastle and Leicester with the Sun claiming that they were interested in signing the energetic Henriksen on transfer deadline day. Hull were demanding £5 million last month but now face up to losing their skipper for nothing.
Henriksen, who is a leader on and off the pitch, could add goals from midfield for Newcastle or Leicester, given that he scored 12 times in his final Eredivisie season for AZ.
