Premier League duo Newcastle United and West Ham are reportedly keen on Atalanta United star Miguel Almiron after his outstanding MLS form.
The cynics may point to Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Kaka and co when describing the MLS as a ‘retirement league’. But Miguel Almiron proves that there is exciting young talent to be found in America’s football league.
The 24-year-old Paraguay international has been a revelation at Atalanta United. He has scored 12 goals and set up 11 more in 31 games in the 2018 campaign, having tallied nine and eight the year before.
And according to The Express, Almiron’s performances had caught the eye across the Atlantic.
West Ham United and Newcastle were reportedly keen on the former Lanus star this summer and, according to Atalanta United’s president, the gifted midfielder will be on his way to England in the next few months.
“Almirón’s future is already decided and will go to England in the European winter market,” Darren Eales told Fox Deportes (broadcast on 4 October).
Newcastle certainly need Almiron more than West Ham, who brought plenty of creativity to the London Stadium this summer by signing Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko over the summer.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has been looking for a number 10 for months now and Almiron would provide that spark and vision for a Newcastle side who have picked up two points and scored four goals all season long.
