Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga defender Jeffrey Bruma has been linked with a reunion with his former Chelsea coach Brendan Rodgers in the Scottish Premiership
Jeffrey Bruma is 26 years of age. It’s fair to say he has not lived up to the potential many people saw in him during his days as a promising youngster at Chelsea.
The towering Dutchman made his first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge in 2010, the same year in which he made his international debut at the age of just 18. But in the eight years that have followed, Bruma’s career has drifted and he now finds himself as a squad player at Bundesliga overachievers Wolfsburg.
But if anyone can help Bruma realise his potential, it is the man who gave him his chance at Chelsea.
Rodgers was in charge of Chelsea’s academy when Bruma arrived at Stamford Bridge. The former Feyenoord youngster made the most appearances in the Youth League during the 2007/08 season under the Northern Irishman.
And according to Bild, Rodgers is ready to offer him an escape route out of Wolfsburg with a £7 million bid. Bruma started just 11 Bundesliga games last season.
Rodgers is a manager renowned for helping players find their best form and Bruma could benefit immensely from working under a coach who knows and believes in him. With Celtic’s defence looking shaky, and with Dedryck Boyata seemingly on his way out, Bruma could be a key part of The Hoops side should the move happen.
