Celtic should make Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna their top target and pay reported £10m fee

Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen are reportedly demanding a big fee for Scott McKenna but this shouldn’t put Celtic off.

This time last year, Aberdeen sold Jonny Hayes to Celtic for a fee of just £1 million. And although the 30-year-old didn’t really get going in green and white, starting six league games before suffering a broken leg which ended his season, there is no doubt that Hayes looked like terrific value at the time.

So this perhaps explains why Aberdeen are determined to demand top dollar for Scott McKenna this summer.

The Daily Record claims that McKenna, who started the season as a relative newcomer to The Dons’ starting XI and ended it as the captain of Scotland in a friendly clash versus Mexico, has been valued at £10 million.

But that should not stop Celtic from attempting to raid their nearest Premiership rivals for the second year in a row.

Celtic could do with some added quality at centre-back this summer with the jury very much out on Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper. Dedryck Boyata, however, has a year left on his contract and has been linked with a £7 million move to Lazio by Radio Sei.

So 21-year-old McKenna, a left-footed, ball-playing defender with huge potential, could be the man to form a solid partnership with either Jozo Simunovic or Kristoffer Ajer.

His £10 million price-tag means Celtic would be forced to break their transfer record for the second time this summer but, should McKenna enhance his potential under Rodgers, he would be worth every penny.
