Report: Wolves willing to break transfer record to sign Anderson Talisca

Besiktas might decide against signing Anderson Talisca on a permanent deal, opening the door for Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ reported interest in Brazilian attacker Anderson Talisca was one of the most intriguing stories of the summer 2016 transfer window.

The Sun claimed that the ambitious Championship side, who had recently been taken over by Chinese investors Fosun, were hoping to make a splash in England’s second tier by smashing the league’s transfer record for the Benfica starlet.

It was understood that Jorge Mendes, who has close links with Fosun, was the man behind the move with Wolves looking likely to beat Premier League giants Liverpool to the £20 million deal.

Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira had even travelled to Wolves’ opening game of the 2016/17 season against Rotherham to finalise the deal. By the end of the transfer window, however, Talisca was not playing in the Midlands.

Instead, he joined Besiktas on a two-year loan. But, according to Turkish publication Miliyet, there is a chance that Talisca could eventually end up at Molineux after all.

It is understood that Besiktas have the option to make Talisca’s loan move permanent this summer but are unwilling to pay with £18.6 million fee required for a player who has scored 23 league goals since moving to Istanbul, inspiring Senol Gunes’ side to the Super Lig title last May.

So Wolves and Ligue 1 giants Monaco, another club with whom Mendes has close connections, are watching the situation closely.

Wolves are looking for players who will help them thrive in the Premier League when promotion is secured and it is understood that they would be willing to smash their transfer record and pay about £26.6 million for the 24-year-old, who was recently included in the Brazil squad for the first time under Tite.

Two years on, this deal could finally happen.
