Willy Boly has flown somewhat under the radar this season.

With Ruben Neves producing masterclass after masterclass in central midfield, Leo Bonatini scoring at will and Diego Jota tying defenders in knots, Wolves’ excellent defensive record has been understated. In the 17 Championship games that Boly has started at centre-half this season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have kept a remarkable 11 clean sheets.

No wonder Wolves are keen to tie the Frenchman down on a permanent deal, with his loan spell from Portuguese giants FC Porto set to expire at the end of this season.

The Express and Star says that the runaway league leaders want to make Boly’s stay at Molineux a long-term one. And although reports had suggested that the 26-year-old had not settled in England, the paper adds that he is keen to remain a Wolves player – as long as they are a Premier League team next season.

As such, Wolves are expected to do a deal when promotion is secured. Portuguese outlet O Jogo stated in December that the Chinese-funded Championship giants would have to pay £10.6 million to sign Boly from Porto – a fee that would make him the most expensive defender in the history of England’s second tier.

Alhough based on his performances this season, Boly would be worth every penny.
