Report: Wolves will bid for Milan’s Andre Silva after promotion

Andre Silva has struggled in Serie A with AC Milan, but is a stunning move to Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers on the cards?

Who would have thought that a club in England’s second tier would ever have the financial might to plan a £34 million bid for an international number nine?

Wolves, however, are not your average Championship also-ran. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are a pretty much a Premier League team already and, with their Chinese owners providing huge funds in the transfer market, truly exceptional talents like Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota can be seen in the Black Country these days.

But could the best be yet to arrive? Stunning speculation emerged in January that Wolves were interested in signing AC Milan striker Andre Silva just a few months after he arrived at the San Siro from Porto for £34 million.

And Italian publication Calciomercato reports that Wolves will make a move for Portugal’s first-choice striker when they are inevitably promoted to the Premier League at the end of this season.

Wolves’ owners, Fosun International, are determined to lead the Molineux club into Europe within a few years so signing players of Silva’s ilk would be a great start. And it almost goes without saying that Jorge Mendes, the super-agent who brought Neves, Jota and co to the Midlands, also represents Milan’s number nine.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Milan are willing to sell. Silva scored six in six during the Europa League group-stage but has not hit the net in Serie A, falling to third in the pecking order.

Milan have spoken out about speculation and it seems that they see Silva as an important part of their plans going forward.

But with doubts surrounding the Rossineri’s ability to pay off huge loans, it has been suggested that they will have to cash in on some key players during the summer as Champions League qualification looks impossible.
