Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to complete one of the first signings of what is likely to be a very busy summer at Molineux.

According to Sky Sports, Wolves are set to trigger Benik Afobe’s £12.5 million release clause in order to re-sign the striker on a permanent deal from Bournemouth.

Afobe, who left the Black Country for the South Coast in 2016, returned to Molineux in January on a loan deal until the end of the season. And, after a slow start, Afobe played a key role as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side stormed to the Championship title, scoring six goals in just seven league starts.

And Sky Sports are now reporting that Afobe has obviously done enough to earn the chance to play Premier League football in old gold next season.

The permanent deal, however, might come as something of a surprise, despite the fact the former MK Dons talisman made a huge impact at Wolves over the last few months.

The Mirror (May 6th, page 66) reported that Wolves had their doubts about whether Afobe was good enough for the Premier League. He did manage just 10 goals in 63 top flight appearances for Bournemouth after all.

But Afobe seems to be at home at in the Midlands and, surrounded by the creativity of Diogo Jota, Helder Costa and co, goals should be easier to come by.
