Jonny has agreed a move to Atletico Madrid from La Liga competitors Celta Vigo but will reportedly spend next season with Wolves in the Premier League.

Jonny Castro looks set for a busy few hours.

According to AS, the Celta Vigo left-back will join Atletico Madrid on a six-year deal after a £6.2 million fee was agreed between the two La Liga clubs. As it stands, however, there is no space just yet in Diego Simeone’s squad for Jonny; meaning he will spend next season on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It is understood that a move to Molineux is almost a formality for Jonny, who has been keen on proving himself in England for some time.

The 24-year-old has been at Celta for his entire professional career, so Wolves will represent his first time outside of the Balaidos. Jonny has been a regular in La Liga over the last six seasons, making 36 starts in 2017/18.

He is a left-back by trade but is also capable of filing in on the right. His arrival, then, will give Nuno Espirito Santo some much needed back-up in both full-back positions, although it remains to be seen whether he would be first choice ahead of Barry Douglas, who assisted 14 goals in the Championship next season.

Atletico’s first-choice left-back, however, is set to remain Felipe Luis. But with the former Chelsea defender turning 33 next month, Jonny looks like his long-term successor.
