Wolverhampton Wanderers’ search for a new centre-forward looks to have come to an end.

O Jogo reported on Friday that the Premier League newcomers were in negotiations with Benfica about signing the Mexican international striker Raul Jimenez on loan for the 2018/19 season, with a fee of around £5 million set to be paid for the temporary move.

Jimenez, who Benfica would value at around £35 million should Wolves have wanted to sign him permanently, started just six league games last season and has fallen further down the pecking order after the arrivals of Facundo Ferreyra and Nico Castillo from Shakhtar Donetsk and Pumas UNAM respectively.

And in latest updates provided by O Jogo, Jimenez’s move to Wolverhampton could be completed ‘in the next few hours’ with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side moving very quickly to tie up a player who has been linked with a move to England almost every summer in recent memory.

Jimenez, who will be part of Mexico’s squad at the Russia World Cup, will be the latest Jorge Mendes client to move to Molineux in the last two years, joining the likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Nuno himself.

Jimenez, who scored just one La Liga goal in a forgettable loan spell at Atletico Madrid in 2014/15, found the net eight times in 43 games for Benfica last season.
