Report: Wolves to beat three Italian teams to Andreas Sondergaard signing

Three huge clubs from Italy’s Serie A were keen on Odense goalkeeper Andreas Sondergaard but Championship leaders Wolves have won the race.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have more money than most of the Championship put together.

But the league leaders have kept their spending to a minimum this month with only one new face, Spanish starlet Rafa Mir, arriving at Molineux.

That could soon change, however, though not with the addition of another Portuguese prospect or the proven Championship goal-scorer that manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been reportedly on the lookout for.

The Birmingham Mail reports that Wolves are set to boost their youth ranks instead with the signing of 17-year-old shot-stopper Andreas Sondergaard.

The Danish teenager is currently with Odense BK in his homeland but has been tracked by a number of clubs, including a trio of high-profile Italian teams.

But it is understood that Wolves have been tracking Sondergaard for some time and are now ready to bring him to England to the tune of £400,000.

Sondergaard, a Danish youth international, has not yet made his first-team debut for Odense but has earned rave reviews for his performances with the under-19s and has been tipped for big things in the future.

So while this young goalkeeper is hardly the most high-profile or expensive acquisition Wolves have made since their Chinese investors started pumping money into the club back in 2016, his impending arrival reflects the desire to plan for the future as well as the present.
