Premier League rivals West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly battling for Mexico’s Gold Cup winning star Edson Alvarez.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have moved to the front of the queue to sign Mexican international Edson Alvarez, with Record claiming that the biggest bid for the Club America star has come from Molineux.
The 21-year-old is still playing in his homeland but a move across the Atlantic is edging closer. Alvarez himself admitted that he is nearing a dream switch to European football after starring as Mexico beat USA in the Gold Cup final, speaking to Goal.
West Ham United have made a bid for a player who has been converted from a commanding centre-half into a tireless defensive midfielder in recent months. But, according to Record, Wolves have offered more.
There is a £10.5 million bid on the table from the Black Country outfit and, although Club America would rather get a little bit more for their prized asset, negotiations are underway and progressing well.
It seems that presence of Alvarez’s Mexico team-mate Raul Jimenez at Molineux is a crucial factor, too, although it must be pointed out that Javier Hernandez is still a West Ham player as it stands.

£10.5 million is a drop in the ocean for Wolves’ billionaire owners but Alvarez could be one of the smartest signings the club have made since Fosun International’s takeover in 2016.
At just 21, he already has an impressive World Cup campaign and a Gold Cup winners medal on his CV and Alvarez should only get better learning alongside the likes of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves at Molineux.
