Report: Wolves in talks with Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno

German shot-stopper Bernd Leno looks set to leave the Bundesliga but could Wolverhampton Wanderers lure him to the Premier League?

John Ruddy might have won the Championship’s Golden Glove award as Wolverhampton Wanderers cruised to the league title last season but he might have made his final appearance as the club’s undisputed number one.

According to German publication Fussball Transfers, Wolves have entered talks about potentially signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno in what would be a huge statement of intent from the newly promoted side.

Leno, who has been included in Germany’s preliminary squad for the World Cup along with Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre Ter-Stegen and Kevin Trapp, looks likely to leave Leverkusen this summer after stating that he is keen to try his hand in another league.

And with a deal to sign the impressive Lukas Hradecky from Eintracht Frankfurt in place, FT suggests that Leverkusen could be willing to let the 26-year-old go so long as they receive offers in excess of £20 million.

It is understood that Wolves have been discussing a potential move to Molineux with the highly-rated goalkeeper but FT reports that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would face a big challenge luring Leno to a newly promoted club.

Leno, who joined Leverkusen from Stuttgart in 2011, has big ambitions and is also on the radar of Europa League winners Atletico Madrid. Though he would likely be a back-up to Jan Oblak should the Slovenian remain at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The six-time Germany international was also in talks with Napoli but they have since broken down while Arsenal have been linked for a number of months.

The Sun stated last week that Leno is one of a number of targets for The Gunners as they embark on an overhaul of the squad Arsene Wenger is leaving behind.
