Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United are desperate to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic and Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken a look.

Newcastle United’s hopes of bringing new blood to St James’ Park in January are not being helped by the fact that there does not appear to be anyone willing to take Aleksandar Mitrovic off their hands.
According to The Mirror, The Magpies are looking to sell their out-of-favour striker and would be willing to accept offers of around £12 million – just shy of the fee they paid Anderlecht for his signature two-and-a-half years ago.
According to The Chronicle, Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers had shown some interest but are now looking at alternative options.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been on the lookout for a striker to provide support to top scorer Leo Bonatini and, according to the Birmingham Mail, he wanted someone who has proven himself in the second tier.
And although Mitrovic was hardly a regular starter in Newcastle’s 2016/17 Championship title winning campaign, he still netted four goals in 11 starts – including a winner at Molineux back in February.
But Wolves have now pulled off a sensational deal to sign Valencia prodigy Rafa Mir from under the noses of Real Madrid. And according to SuperExpress Poland, they are also hoping to beat Leeds United to Serbian Aleksandar Prijovic, the PAOK striker who is Mitrovic’s international teammate.

At around £4 million, he could cost a third of the price Newcastle are asking for their firebrand number 45. So The Magpies will be hoping to find another club keen to offer Mitrovic an escape route.
