Will Wolverhampton Wanderers decide against bringing Rondon back to the Premier League for £16.5m from Midland rivals West Bromwich Albion?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have shown interest in £16.5 million West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon but, according to the Express and Star, the high-flying Premier League outfit would prefer to sign a younger option instead.

Rondon is a man in demand after scoring a career-best 11 top flight goals during a fantastic loan spell at Newcastle United last season.

With Rafa Benitez leaving St James’ Park at the end of his contract, however, the door has opened for other clubs to snap up the Venezuelan international. And, given that he has a £16.5 million release clause, West Brom have already accepted that he will be on his way.

Wolves are one of those who have been closely linked though it is reported that Rondon is only seen as a back-up option with Raul Jimenez starring as a lone striker during a fabulous 2018/19 season.

And the Express and Star adds that Wolves have concerns about the South American’s age. Rondon will turn 30 before the end of the year and a Wolves side who generally prioritise young, up and coming talent like Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota believe that better value can be found elsewhere.

They are probably right.

Rondon feels like a short-term quick fix but that is simply not how this ambitious Wolves side do things.
