Alfred N’Diaye looks more than likely to still be a Wolves player next season.

The midfielder is on loan at Molineux from La Liga outfit Villarreal and, according to Spanish daily AS, he is set to complete a permanent move for around £8 million once he makes his 25th Championship appearance of the season.

As it stands, N’Diaye is sitting on 24 so a deal could be confirmed when Wolves host Reading at Molineux on Saturday.

This is the Senegal international’s third spell in English football but, after failing to make an impression at Sunderland and being relegated with Hull City last season, this is by far his most successful with Wolves odds-on for promotion to the Premier League.

And N’Diaye, despite starting just 10 second tier games, has still played an important role in Wolves’ ascension to the top of the Championship table.

The downside, however, is that these reports about a permanent move have broken after possibly N’Diaye’s worst performance of the season. He lasted just over an hour as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were deservedly beaten 2-0 by a forceful Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

Comfortably overshadowed by the former Wolves midfielder Kevin McDonald, it was N’Diaye’s loose header which set Fulham on their way to a 38th-minute opener through Ryan Sessegnon.

And he was subbed on the hour in a game Wolves never really looked like winning in the absence of star midfielder Ruben Neves.

On this evidence alone, £8.2 million seems a little steep.
