West Ham United reportedly wanted to bring FC Porto star Yacine Brahimi to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
The summer of 2017 represented a real statement on the behalf of West Ham United.
Fans wanted big name signings and they got them, Issa Diop, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson all arriving as part of a £100 million transfer splurge. But one player who they failed to lure to the London Stadium is Yacine Brahimi.
According to ESPN, West Ham sent a delegation to Portugal in August in order to sign the Algerian international from Primeira Liga champions FC Porto, but Record claimed a day later that Brahimi rejected a move to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Although that does not mean the Hammers have given up just yet.
According to Noticias ao Minuto, West Ham will join Lyon, Marseille and Lazio in targeting the skilful winger in the January transfer window.
Fotomac adds that Besiktas have opened talks with Brahimi’s representatives, with the former African Footballer of the Year lined up to replace the seemingly Flamengo-bound Ryan Babel in Istanbul.
Brahimi is out of contract at the end of this season so could be available for a fraction of his market value in January. The 28-year-old inspired Porto to their first league title in five years last season, scoring nine goals and setting up a further seven.
